Because time is slipping away and I’m in danger of missing a complete week if I don’t watch it, I offer my humble apology.
Boat life is on hold while we mess about with house stuff and thanks to Mike and Jo we have use of a car for a few days and are “doing shops” big time. Blogging will unfortunately suffer but normal service will return with the start of our summer cruise.
Sunday afternoon saw us crossing the country (Mike driving) on scary motorways to Stourbridge and in particular, Phil Speight’s yard at Dadford’s Wharf. Sarah-Kate has new livery, blues and reds replacing green and a fantastic shine from super-smooth paintwork. It was impossible to do justice to Phil’s work because S-K acts like a mirror sending reflections of her surroundings back to the camera.
I’ve stuck two piccies together here so please, no complaints to Phil about his paintwork, it’s the fault of the camera. A good workman always gets the faulty tools.

If you get a chance to go aboard S-K then ask for the guided tour inside the back cabin. There you’ll see Phil’s masterpieces – roses and castles, a galleon and a cathedral and a really chuffed Mike and Jo.

Rummaging around in a box this week I came across Aunty Elsie’s autograph album. She’s V’s aunty not mine, or rather she was and this one written during the First World War leapt off the page so I share it with you for the next time you get to write in a friend’s autograph album (yeah, like who does that anymore?)
To all those of us with birthdays this year I offer these words.
I wish you Many Happy Returns on this auspicious day,
I wish you health and happiness far more than words can say,
God guide you through the years to come, God keep you evermore,
And from His treasured house above His blessings on you pour.
