Narrowboat news (Balmaha)

by jakepithf @ 2005-05-21 - 13:30:00

Saturday 21st May 2005

The shell is ready. Pushed out of the workshops on a single axle she sits in the rain awaiting the truck to take her across country. Reeves don't hang about, by coffee break their next shell already had its baseplate, sides and bow welded.

The next stage for us is the fit-out and three months of solid graft before she is ready for the water.

There's little we can do now except plan her first voyage before the winter stoppages.

There's still time for input so if you have features that might interest us then get in contact. (Pat & Mike, we already plan to take a sneaky look at yours when we next pass through Warwick - is that OK?)

Narrowboat journal update

by jakepithf @ 2005-05-16 - 21:27:12

Reeves Boatbuilders have done a wonderful job with the steelwork.
Cabin is nearing completion with ports cut and side doors half finished.
Taff rail is a feature with four section lift-up handrail enabling access
at cabin sides and either side of tiller for that last minute leap onboard
from the turf.
Won't be ready for this year's Crick but you will see us pounding the Leicester section later this summer.

The Present

by jakepithf @ 2005-05-08 - 15:54:30

Our days on the Pass of Balmaha might be over but our future is now the canals of England (and perhaps Europe) on a 60 foot "cruiser stern" narrowboat "Balmaha".

Our new boat plans looks like this:-
